A key conference supporting the delivery of a seven year facilities management contract for British Energy
At the end of 2007, Haden Building Management, was awarded a seven-year contract by British Energy Generation Limited for the facilities management of British Energy’s portfolio of eight nuclear power stations and two office complexes across England and Scotland. Other parts of the Balfour Beatty Group will provide specialist skills and support for the contract.
The contract started on 01 April 2008. To support the mobilisation and transformation process, including the transfer of 1500 staff, a four-stage development programme was designed to ensure that people at all levels, with different working methods and from very different cultures, all felt part of the same team.
A key feature of this programme was a two-day management conference held in March at Bosworth Hall, Warwickshire. With just over a month to go before the start of the new contract, attention was clearly focused on getting the fine details right. The day one agenda included details of the vision and values for the contract, operational structure, expectations and responsibilities as well as discussions on practical issues. The day finished with dinner combined with a quiz provided the chance to network with new colleagues.
On day two, each of the delegates visited a series of clinics hosted by the contract’s functional experts, to gather information and ask questions about the support services that they would be able to access. A client slot closed the conference providing the British Energy strategic overview, outlining the sponsorship Haden would receive and clearly explaining the expectations for the new contract.
Carol Chapman, Haden’s Organisational and Personal Development Director said: “ Another very successful event. I know that I can rely absolutely on Phoenix Corporate to provide professional, hassle-free conference support. On this occasion, the hotel had changed the conference room at the last minute – only discovered when we arrived to set up. Without any fuss, Phoenix made a round trip to Bristol to ensure that we had the appropriate staging for the space.” |
